Hypnotherapy

"Hypnosis is to consciousness what a telephoto lens is to a camera." - David Spiegel

I am a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, using hypnosis as a way to facilitate deep healing and transformation. It can be used for stress and anxiety reduction, trauma resolution, pain relief, surgery prep, etc... There are endless ways in which hypnotherapy can improve one's life and relationships. There is nothing magical about hypnosis. It is a natural state of mind with specific identifying characteristics, including an extraordinary quality of relaxation. It is a somewhat altered state of consciousness and awareness, although the conscious mind is still present. We might compare it to a teeter-totter. In the waking state the conscious mind is at the high end of the teeter-totter and the subconscious mind at the low end. Under hypnosis they reverse and the subconscious is at the high end and the conscious part is at the low end, but it is still present. Thoughts rise from the inner mind into consciousness. The well-known hypnotherapist, Milton Erickson, states hypnosis is "...a state of intensified attention and receptiveness, and an increased responsiveness to an idea or set of ideas."

The hypnotherapy services I provide utilize induction of hypnosis, methods, and principles used to help clients discover their inner creative abilities, to develop positive thinking and feeling, and to transform undesirable habits and behavior patterns. Therapeutic goals are to achieve freedom from restrictive thought and belief systems, to assist in solving personal problems, and to develop motivation and achieve goals. Clients may be taught the use of self-hypnotic techniques to assist in achieving goals and resolve issues that may have been mutually agreed upon.

Hypnosis is not a state of sleep, but is a natural state of mind that can provide extraordinary levels of relaxation of mind, body and emotions. The principles and theories upon which hypnotherapy is based are accessing and utilizing the power of one's inner resources. Hypnosis can transcend the critical, analytical level of mind, and facilitate the acceptance of suggestions, directions and instructions desired by the client. The therapeutic use of hypnosis can also elicit information and insights from the inner mind. I use interviews, discussion and hypnotic methods dealing with underlying issues whenever appropriate, with the goal of achieving effective and lasting results.
